This link contains a material library with a number of materials for use with surfacing dendrites and spines. To save it to a file in Netscape, place the mouse on the link and hold the right mouse button. Select "Save link as..." to save it to a file.
The library contains a number of bump-map based surfaces that were designed in imitation of the bumpy surfaces seen in freeze fractured material. It is not clear how appropriate these are for presentation of serial EM reconstructions. The Gray Stippled material may be a better choice. This material does a good job of hiding surface patch boundaries and suggests a textured surface without committing to bumps exclusively.
